The overall purpose of the programme is to reduce the health and environmental risks connected with the use of pesticides in the participating countries. The course wants to inspire and give the participants tools to work towards this objective and give them possibilities to start the process. The objectives of the training programme are to:
- Enhance the participant’s familiarity with the international regulations and organisations within the fields of chemicals and pesticides.
- Provide the participants with a systematic and analytical approach for a comprehensive analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of pesticides in different contexts (society, environment, health, agriculture etc.).
- Increase the participant’s capacity to analyse in detail the necessary components of risk reduction programmes within their respective fields of action and countries.
- Develop the participant’s understanding of how attitudes concerning risks can be changed.
The programme mixes lectures, group and individual work, study tours and field studies. Project work and communication are continuous parts of the programme and focus is on active participation and the applicability in the participants’ respective organisations and countries. The second phase of the programme takes places in one of the participating countries.
